LAVA formalised its role as custodian of the Expo 2030 masterplan this week, and Qatar became the third Gulf state to send a delegation to the site in 11 days.

  • LAVA, the architecture practice that authored the Expo 2030 masterplan’s original spatial concept, was appointed Custodian on 6 August, marking the shift from concept design to detailed design and implementation. The appointment follows the practice’s World Design Awards 2026 Gold recognition. No contract value was disclosed.

  • Qatar became the third Gulf Cooperation Council country to send a delegation to the Expo 2030 site in 11 days. Ambassador Bandar Mohammed Abdullah Al-Attiya visited on 2 August, following Bahrain (23 July) and Kuwait (28 July). Qatar has not yet named a pavilion Commissioner General or confirmed a site plot.

Both signals point to a project moving from concept into delivery, with no new contract values disclosed this week.
